The Love of a Father

Dr. James Dobson, Christian author, psychologist, and founder of Focus on the Family, shared this, “a daughter's sense of self-worth and confidence is linked directly to her relationship with her dad. What he thinks about her and how he expresses his affection is a central source of her perceived value as a human being. It also affects her femininity and teaches her how to relate to boys and men.”
Since our dads play such a critical role in the development of our identity, our self worth, and our sense of femininity, you can understand why the lack of a positive male role model in a young girl’s life can have devastating consequences.
Specifically, the way your father showed love to you will shape the belief you hold about how God loves you. Whether you have given it any thought or not, I promise you the way your dad showed his love to you has shaped what you believe about love, the type of love you look for from men, and the type you expect and/or demand to receive.
Let me share two verses from the Psalms that tell us just how much God loves us and cares about our hurts.
Psalm 34:18 “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
Psalm 147:3 “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”
No matter where you are right now in your life, God is waiting with open arms, wanting to show you how much He loves you, how special you are to Him.
